Health Talks

Public health training and consultancy.

We pride ourselves on offering evidence-based solutions and a flexible and innovative approach to suit all budgets.

Our Mission

To improve population health and wellbeing through the development and delivery of training programmes for organisations, communities and individuals.

Innovation

We are a team of pioneers committed to developing wellbeing interventions tailored to each setting and the individuals who participate. Our programmes are thoroughly evaluated to ensure a measurable impact.

Our Values

We pride ourselves on offering evidence-based training and consultancy with a flexible and innovative approach to suit all budgets in the public, private, education and voluntary sectors. Our training solutions are based on the most current research and data from global sources and align with both UK and EU health agendas.

Collaboration

Working across different sectors and with different organisations enables us to add value to all our programmes. No organisation can deliver effective public health interventions alone and our collaborative working ethos is one of our superpowers! Bringing individuals, teams and communities together to address health inequalities in a joined-up approach.

Health Talks delivers bespoke training and consultancy packages to a variety of organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors. The company was established to provide high quality, affordable training – previously only available from statutory services – and all our facilitators are qualified public health and mental health practitioners.

Health Talks’ Director, Alix Sheppard, has over 20 years of experience working in public health with organisations including the NHS, Health Education England, the Faculty of Public Health, Royal Society for Public Health and local authorities. A UKPHR registered Public Health Practitioner (PR0322), she leads on the development of public health practitioners in the East of England, North West and The Midlands and recognises the importance of a highly skilled, registered workforce to reduce health inequalities.

Alix was a lead in the founding team for Youth Health Champions and Community Health Champions in Essex, helped to develop the qualifications to support the roles and is a keen advocate of a career in public health. Several of the original Youth Health Champions from the early programmes are now enjoying successful careers in public health and social care as a result of being involved in the YHC programme.

Promoting inclusivity

We have adapted all programmes to promote inclusivity and most recently have developed Health Awareness training for the ASD and deaf community and adapted programmes for several BAME groups, tailored to the specific needs of each group.

Health Talks Ltd has now trained over 3,000 Youth Health Champions, 1,000 Community/Public Health Champions and currently delivers consultancy and training in almost every county in England.

Your ability to make complex concepts seem so simple has been a lifesaver more times than I can count. Your infectious positivity and belief in me kept me going even when I doubted myself.

What I have learnt about long term health conditions like diabetes and cancer, I will share with my supported living staff.

I think that anyone who wants to learn/help students should definitely do this.

Absolutely fantastic and really engaging course. Lots of knowledge shared in a way that was easy to digest, and excellent to have the opportunity to share information with other participants. Have really enjoyed every day.
Kent Public Health Champion 2023
Brilliantly energetic, informative, knowledgeable. Lots of information over the four days, but well delivered and well-paced across all 4 days.
Kent Public Health Champion 2023
As an experienced teacher I am often disappointed by presentations by untrained teachers. I had nothing at all to worry about with Alix as the presenter.
